Senior/Principal Scientist – Research

TRex Bio is a preclinical-stage biotherapeutics company that is expanding its Biology and Translational Research team. We are seeking a talented and highly-motivated scientist to join our Biology and Translational Research group.

This position offers an opportunity to work as part of a small, dynamic team to discover new targets and develop novel immunomodulatory drugs. Leadership, teamwork, and a high level of scientific integrity and transparency are key attributes for this position. The candidate is expected to take a key role in leadership of a therapeutic program, perform day-to-day laboratory benchwork, analyze and interpret data, and present project updates to multiple audiences. Responsibilities include the validation of target biology, direction of IND-enabling research, and translational studies. Relevant techniques include primary immune cell-based assays, flow cytometry, immunoassays, and Luminex platforms, as well as emerging technologies.

The role is responsible for

  • Leadership of research activities for new target validation and IND-stage therapeutic programs
  • Hands-on experiments
  • Management of CROs and consultants
  • Close coordination with other functions (in silico biology, target discovery, biotherapeutics, in vitro pharmacology, and clinical development)
  • Translational research to support clinical development and biomarker strategies

Must have

  • D in immunology or a related field
  • 5+ years of relevant biopharmaceutical industry experience in autoimmune, inflammation, and/or immuno-oncology disease areas
  • Advanced multiparameter flow cytometry experience (10+ colors)
  • Experience with primary immune cell functional assays
  • Willingness to work in the lab (≥60% of time)

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in large molecule/biologic drug development, including significant contribution to an IND filing; the ideal candidate will have experience directing research or translational activities during the IND-enabling phase
  • Extensive experience with in vitro/ex vivo cell-based techniques including isolation and culture of primary immune cell subsets, multi-cellular functional assays, advanced flow cytometry (10+ colors), and alphaLISA/ELISA techniques.
  • Experience with FACSDiva, FlowJo, Prism, and Microsoft Office programs.
  • Detail-oriented and analytical with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment
  • Diligent, strong growth mindset with a positive “can-do” attitude to push programs forward
  • Good planning and organizational skills to meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills
