Software Engineer – Computational Biology

TRexBio is seeking a talented and motivated contractor software engineer for employment in a dynamic and innovative computational biology team. Our group is elucidating the biology of tissue-resident immune cells to develop next generation immunotherapies for inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The team’s core competencies are bioinformatics, data science, software engineering, and biology. We value enthusiasm, teamwork, scientific integrity, and transparency.

As a member of the TRexBio Computational Biology group, you would play a key role in infrastructure development, architect advanced informatics systems with modern software stacks, and help to deploy bioinformatics pipelines, with a high degree of autonomy. Opportunities for deeper data analysis, and data presentation. This role will facilitate the exploration of multiple, large bulk- and/or scRNAseq datasets to uncover novel biology from primary human tissue samples and answer critical questions from cutting edge in vitro models. TRexBio is rapidly collecting an abundance of primary tissue data to support therapeutics target discovery, so team members are encouraged to use their expertise to contribute to our growing bioinformatics software pipelines to improve our workflows and accelerate discovery of life changing therapeutics.

Minimum Skill Qualifications

  • Advanced Python and R
  • AWS Cloud computing know-how
  • GitHub fluency
  • Docker experience
  • Machine Learning experience
  • Strong experience using and maintaining relational databases
  • Top-notch cross-disciplinary communication and presentation skills

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience building and using NextFlow pipelines
  • Prior bioinformatics experience OR scRNAseq expertise
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field, e.g. Immunology or Computational Biology
  • Biotech industry experience, especially in preclinical drug discovery
  • Web application development (especially JS, RShiny or Flask)
  • Immunology expertise
